When you open PoreXpert the first screen you will see is the welcome screen shown below.

Porexpert Welcome Screen

The welcome screen provides you with three options:

Open File
Cell Engineering - The Cell Engineering option is covered in the Advanced Operations tutorial section.
PoreBatch

The tutorials can be run using either Open File or PoreBatch, we recommend when running the tutorial that you use the Open File option on the welcome screen, as this will get you used to the time operations take on your computer. For a 10 * 10 * 10 unit cell we anticipate that on most computers it takes about five minutes to run when using the default fitting parameters and is not fitting a spherical structure. A spherical structure takes about 15 - 20 minutes.

For the porometry tutorial we will use a membrane data file located in the porometry tutorial files folder "Cellulose Nitrate Filter.txt". Once you open the data file you will see a loading page which appears while PoreXpert is opening datafiles, then you will see the experimental data loaded in the PoreXpert sampling page, as shown in the next figure.

In the above figure there is a warning message highlighting that the porosity of the sample is not in the data file and therefore cannot be read automatically by the software. It is important to check that the Intrusion Fluid for Porometry data is listed as PoreXpert Porometry Air when working with Porometry data, and not a Mercury Intrusion Fluid.

The accept button on the sampling page will not work until you have entered a value of porosity for your sample. The determination of porosity page earlier in the help system explains different methods that can be used for determining the porosity of samples.

For the tutorial we are going to use a value of 22 %. Once you have entered the porosity click on the accept button which will take you to the Fitting page, where you can follow the next part of the tutorial.
